Everything you need to start your new hobby is included with each biOrb terrarium

  1. Clean air system - Prevents stagnation and condensation by drawing in fresh air, circulating then returning the air through a replaceable carbon filter.

  2. Misting unit - Triggered automatically according to your setting choice. The Ultrasonic mister produces a gentle 'swirling' ultra-fine mist that hydrates the plants right down to their roots.

  3. LED lighting - Automatic 24 hour cycle, simulating sunrise, daylight, sunset and night time.

  4. Acrylic terrarium- Acrylic is 10 times stronger and 23% clearer than glass. Acrylic is also a good insulator, so you don't lose as much heat as you would with a glass terrarium.

  5. Capillary matting & Support tray- Constantly hydrates the compost without over-watering. This prevents the possibility of plant roots rotting.

  6. Inlet & Reservoir - The capillary mat draws water from the reservoir via the inlet.

  7. Water level guide - Discreet and easy to read indicator for checking the level of water in the reservoir base.

  8. Coir compost - Growth media to cultivate your plants roots. The compost is made from cocopeat, a renewable resource extracted from the husk of coconut.

  9. Humidimist - Specially formulated remineralized water with low conductivity and reduced minerals to prevent condensation in your biOrb AIR. Humidimist is used in the misting unit in your biOrb AIR; do not use normal tap water.

How the AIR 60 works

The biOrb AIR automatically controls lighting, watering, humidity and air circulation. Select the appropriate settings to create the climate you need based on your planting.

  1. Sterilized coir compost is placed on top of the capillary mat, which draws water from the water reservoir in the base. This capillary action prevents the plant roots from soaking and rotting.

  2. LED Lighting is arranged in a circular pattern for perfect placement to support growth. This prevents the plants leaning towards a single light source. The light works on an automatic 24 hour cycle, simulating sunrise, daylight, sunset and night time.

  3. The AIR senses when the humidity drops and gently mists your plants using an ultrasonic mister mounted in the lid's water reservoir. You can choose from 3 misting settings, depending on what is best for your plants: Low (For environments with a light amount of plants), Automatic (For tropical plant growth), High (For jungle environment). Only use HumidiMist in the unit.

  4. The AIR senses when the humidity drops and circulates air with the fan. The fan contains a replaceable carbon filter that absorbs odors while the fan circulates the air. You can choose from 3 fan speeds (Low, Medium, or High) for more control over fluid usage and noise reduction.

Terrarium Tips + Tricks

The AIR is designed to replicate natural, real-world conditions suitable for plants that are otherwise difficult to maintain in the modern home.

Below are some helpful tips and tricks to guide, inspire, and inform you while creating and maintaining your plant paradise.

Planting your AIR

Tips for successful planting

  • Place any decorative sculptures or wood in the tank before adding compost or plants to help you visualize the look you wish to achieve.

  • Once the compost is correctly moistened add it around your sculptures to hold them firmly in place, unusual shaped pieces may need additional wire supports hidden under the compost.

  • Firm the compost into place, a change in levels can be more interesting than a completely flat layer.

  • Foliage and smaller plants should be used for foreground, background, and ground cover

  • Higher, feature plants can be used to create a focal point within the AIR or as a background. The size they will grow to should be considered.

  • Allow room for growth and access to clean the inside of the globe.

  • If you are planting epiphytic species make sure they receive additional sprays of Humidimist to help them adjust and root in their surroundings.

  • Epiphytic plants such as Orchids also require additional weekly feeding with a suitable fertilizer.

  • Carnivorous Plants can grow very well in the AIR, as with all species we recommend you research your intended choices to insure their suitability. You must also consider that fertilizers cannot be used and that the plants require insects as food for their source nitrogen.

  • Please research individual plant requirements

Plants that work well in the AIR 60

There are many desirable exotic species including certain Orchids, Ferns, Begonia, Carnivorous Plants etc. that are ideal for their compact size and slow growing nature. The following lists of plants have been successfully used in our own biOrb AIR displays. It is recommended that you research which plants suit your intended planting scheme.

  • Foliage plants: Fittonia albivenis (Red, Red Anne, Lemon, Mini White), Peperomia (mixed, Beetle, Trailing Jade, Belly Button), Creeping Fig, Golden Pothos, Moss (pillow, Haircap, Reindeer), and Begonias (Kingiana, Buttercup, Scapigera)

  • Feature plants: Cryptanthus, Delta Maidenhair Fern, Asparagus fern, Bird’s- nest fern, Ficus Retusa (Ginseng), Scutum Roseum, Neoregelia (Fireball), Alocasia Kapit, Silver Dragon Alocasia, Hoya multiflora, Anthurium clarinervium, and Sinningia

  • Orchids: Ceratostylis Retisquama (Rubra), Ornithophora Radicans (The Ground Rooting Ornithophora), Ornithidium Sophrontis (The Sophronitis-Like Maxillaria), Haraella Ordorata (The Rear Facing Lip Spur), Mini Phalaenopsis, The Tiny Psygmorchis, Brassavola Nodosa, and Jewel orchids (Macodes Petola, Ludisia Discolor Var. Alba)

  • Carnivorous Plants: Venus fly trap, Honey dew plant, Sarracenia (Bug Bat), Pinquicula (Butterworts)

Routine Maintenance

The biOrb AIR automatically takes control of lighting, humidity, watering and air circulation, providing everything your plants need to thrive. From time to time you will need to perform routine maintenance to help keep your plant’s environment clean.

  • Daily monitoring of plant health is very important. Trim plants when appropriate and remove any debris. Follow the AIR instructions if you need to change the settings to better suit your plants.

  • On a weekly basis check the water levels. The indicator on the base of the AIR easily shows the level of water in the base of the terrarium.

  • The AIR will alert you when the Humidimist needs to be refilled in the misting unit. Once per hour, the lighting switches from light to dark.

  • Every six months you should replace the filter so that it can continue to absorb aerosols.

  • If you need to clean the inside of the AIR be sure to use acrylic safe cloths.
