Hygrophila serpyllum, a small, spreading plant native to India,  can be found hanging down from elevated planting sites and rooting at stem nodes. It flourishes in wetlands that experience periodic flooding, forming a 3 cm high mat or a 5 cm high bush in areas with minimal light. Its roundish, 1-1.5 cm leaves resemble those of pennywort (Lysimachia nummularia), a submerged, upright-growing plant. Stems are delicate but strong, and in its emersed form, the plant produces small-leaved mats and flowering shoots with small white-blue flowers. This beautiful aquatic plant is relatively easy and fast-growing, with a moderate CO2 requirement.
