American Cichlid Salt™ is a chemically sound blend of salts designed to replicate the natural environment of American Cichlids. It contains all physiologically essential elements such as magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, and includes trace components such as iron, aluminum, and iodide.
American Cichlid Salt™ is formulated so that dosages vary depending on the species’ origin and need only be added when setting up an aquarium or with water changes.
Directions
All doses given for 110 L (30 US gallons).
SOUTH AMERICAN: Use 2.5 g (1/2 teaspoon).
CENTRAL AMERICAN: Use 1.25 g (1/4 teaspoon).
TIPS: Use when setting up an aquarium and when making water changes. To add salt to an established tank, base dose on water being changed. Do not use salt when simply replacing evaporated water. It is best to dissolve the salt in freshwater before use.
FAQ
Is American Cichlid Salt™ harmful to plants?
A: Not at all! That said, the minerals in American Cichlid Salt™ are not optimized for plant growth, so if you intend to set up a planted tank, we recommend Equilibrium as a mineral supplement instead.
Is it possible to overdose American Cichlid Salt™?
A: It certainly is. Fish prefer their GH to be steady and within a set range for that species. Use of multiple mineral supplements or too much American Cichlid Salt™ can raise the GH higher than is ideal for your fish. We always recommend to follow the dosing instructions closely, and to only re-dose this product when doing a water change and according to the volume of new water being added to the system.
Will American Cichlid Salt™ affect my pH, GH, or KH?
Ordinary aquarium or tap water use
American Cichlid Salt™ will add minerals that raise your GH, but it does not contain any buffers that would alter the pH or KH of an ordinary aquarium.
RO/DI Water
When preparing your water for the aquarium, keep in mind that RO/DI water has an inherently unstable pH that must be stabilized with a buffer like Alkaline Buffer™ before it is safe to use in an aquarium. Any product that is used in RO/DI water can cause a shift in pH, including products typically considered inert or pH-neutral.
TIPS: Use when setting up an aquarium and when making water changes. To add salt to an established tank, base dose on water being changed. Do not use salt when simply replacing evaporated water. It is best to dissolve the salt in freshwater before use.
