Appearance and Characteristics:
- The Red Tiger Lotus features broad, wavy-edged leaves with a variegated color pattern.
- It’s also known as Nymphaea zenkeri.
- This bulb plant exhibits two types of leaf structures:
- Submersed leaves: These are somewhat heart-shaped and grow near the bulb.
- Floating leaves: These appear on long, thin stems, resembling lily pads resting at the water’s surface.

Planting the Bulb:
- When you receive the bulb (often covered in rock wool), gently remove it from the pot.
- Rinse off any debris stuck to the bulb.
- Plant the bulb in the midground or background of your aquarium.
- Ensure that one-third of the bulb is gently pushed into the substrate, with the shoots or leaves completely above ground. Avoid burying the entire bulb to prevent rot.
- As the roots grow, they’ll anchor the bulb securely in place.

- Once established, the Red Tiger Lotus grows rapidly, producing big leaves.
- Feed it comprehensive fertilizers like Easy Green and Easy Root Tabs.
- For vibrant red coloration, provide medium to high lighting and consider adding extra iron fertilizer.
- Some Red Tiger Lotuses have primarily green leaves with red variegation, while others display red leaves with darker reddish-purple striping.

- If the floating leaves become excessive and block light from other plants, trim them.
- Simply clip the lily pad at the base of its stem, closest to the bulb.
- Regular pruning encourages bushier growth.

- After flowering, they may develop multiple seeds.
- Another method of propagation is via the bulb itself.
