Betta Basics™ is designed to provide the optimal environment for both betta and plant. Betta Basics™ removes any chlorine, chloramine and detoxifies ammonia. It buffers the water to a pH of 7.0 and provides a healthy environment for fish and plant.

Sizes: 60 mL, 250 mL

Directions

Use with each water change. For best results also use 2–3 times per week. Add 1 capful (5 mL) per each 1.25 L (1.25 quarts) of water. In Betta-only bowls (i.e. no plant) use 1 capful per 4 L (1 US gallon) with water changes.

FAQ

I have had a Siamese fighting fish in a five liter tank for the last two weeks. At about five days, the water begins to become cloudy. How often should I change the entire water? If Betta Basics™ is put in the tank in between entire water changes, will this clear the water?

A: It is best to do a water change 1-2 times per week. Betta Basics™ will not clear the water and I wouldn't recommend a clarifier to you because of no mechanical filtration. The problem is in a Betta environment the organics tend to build fairly quickly with no filtration. You may want to reduce feedings to at least once a day, no more food than your betta can consume in a few minutes.

After I clean out the fish bowl and add fresh water, including Betta Basics™, can I put the betta fish immediately in the fish bowl?

A: It is fine to put the betta in the bowl immediately after using Betta Basics™ as long as the temperature is consistent.

Can I put Betta Basics™ in the bowl while the fish is in the bowl?

A: Yes, Betta Basics™ is fine to use in the bowl with the fish on a regular basis to maintain pH and water quality.

Do I need to use Betta Basics™ even if I’m not doing a water change?

A: Technically speaking, you only "need" to add Betta Basics™ when either a) your pH is slipping outside your preferred range, b) you are adding new water to the tank, or c) you have detected ammonia or nitrite in the system that needs to be detoxified. Most betta keepers do not regularly test their water for ammonia, nitrite, or pH, and want a simple solution that will condition, buffer, and detoxify all at once without fear of overdose. For this reason, we recommend to add the product once a week, even if you are not doing a water change, as this will ensure that your pH remains at neutral and that any minor spikes in ammonia or nitrite are detoxified before they can do damage to the fish.
