Tropica plants have been such a huge success in Canada this past year that it was time for Lars Green – Managing Director and Charlotte S. Have – Management Assistant of “Tropica Aquarium Plants” to travel all the way from their headquarters in Denmark to visit Vancouver. They missed the “heat wave” by a day and only saw Vancouver in all it’s rainy glory. With umbrellas in hand and dripping from the rain they came to Aquariums West to get a first hand look at one of the stores in Canada that is selling lots of their Tropica plants. They were impressed by our aquatic plant displays and we were flattered to hear that in their opinion, Aquariums West is among the top 3% of aquarium stores in the world. Many of the European stores have well educated, “Tropica Certified” staff and it is quite normal to have well organized stores full of aquatic plant displays. We hope to have the opportunity to study in Denmark and become “Tropica certified” as well.
In Europe there are many well known Aquatic Designers who attract crowds of up to 200 aquascapers to watch and learn as they set up planted aquarium displays. It is regarded as an art form like Bonsai or Ikebana! We hope to bring some of these Aquatic Plant Rock Stars to Vancouver one day to show us how they create their aquascapes.
We will be testing new products, receiving new varieties of plants and will continue to feature the full range of their gorgeous plants as Tropica’s Canadian flagship store. They have set up shop in Vancouver which is now the headquarters for “Tropica North America” managed by Vancouver’s own Kyle Nelson, the Chief Executive Officer.
This is a very exciting time for the aquarium hobby in Canada and we hope that with the addition of ADA products from Japan and the steady supply of Tropica Plants from Denmark that more and more people will enjoy this aquatic art. For over 30 years Aquariums West has been trying to create an aquascaping culture in Vancouver and it appears it has finally taken root.
